매년 봄 세금 season 마다 내가 학생들 데리고 무료 세금보고를 저소득층과 영어를 잘 못하는 주민들에게 봉사하는데 여기 23 ABC TV 방송국에서 인터뷰를 해서한번 보라고 ..
Hi all of my Choongdong 63 friends,
This is 배병열 (Benjanin Bae). I am sorry that I am writing in English. But as you know, our generation never got used to type/ write in Hangul in our work days as office people or self-employed perons such as a doctor, lawyer, business owner etc. Although I worked in one of LG companies in 70's and had a desktop in my late days, I never typed in Hangul in those days. I learned typing in English when I got to the USA and studied in the MBA program. So if I type in Hangul, it takes so long, not to mention lots of typos.
As we are getting older and older, we tend to feel more nostalgic and homesick. I remember vaguely that it is expressed "수구 초심". In my 40 years' career in here in the States, I tried to melt into the main stream since I had to deal with white people including students. In fact, I almost lost my Korean heritage in the first 20 years in here. Then, as I mentioned earlier, my Korean things are getting back and became more powerful demading that "you are Korean in the first place!!!"
To make a long story short, I am still working full time as a full professor in California State Universiyt, Bakersfield. Weeks ago, the biggest TV station in town, interviewed me and my students and aired it. Tax filing is mandatory for everyone in the USA. It takes a lot of time and efforts. If they go to a CPA or tax professional, it may take $100-500. So we are proving free tax serices for thos elow income people or non-English speaking or with diasbilities.
If you have any chance to come to Los Angeles or west coast, let me know. We can have some fun time together.
Ben
